The TRIUMPH (TReating Urinary symptoms in Men in Primary Healthcare) trial has exceeded its original target recruitment figure of 840 participants and has enrolled a total of 1,077 participants to the trial, with 673 of those recruits from the West of England region.
The trial, open in the West of England and Wessex regions, aims to test whether personalised advice based on a nurse’s assessment of men’s urinary symptoms achieves improved control of symptoms over usual care. Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) refer to problems with storing urine, such as increased urinary day-time frequency and urgency. Half of men over 40 years of age experience at least one LUTS, which can have a significant impact on their daily lives.
The trial initially aimed to recruit at least 24 GP practices from Bristol and Southampton, and has exceeded this target by recruiting a total of 32 GP practices.
The TRIUMPH study team gave a thank you to the CRN West of England and CRN Wessex research delivery teams, who conducted all the eligibility phone calls to over 1,600 potential participants throughout the trial.
