Great support from dementia carers and service providers in Bristol on Ujima Radio takeover

L-R: Dr Paloma Sequeiros, Gwen Watson, Angie Monfries, Tony Hall and Charlie Procter

It's amazing how quickly two hours can go by - the opinion of everyone involved in the Join Dementia Research takeover on Ujima Radio on Tuesday 29 January.

Charlie Procter, Join Dementia Research Officer, was joined by Bristol Dementia Action Alliance member Tony Hall, who is also a carer for his wife who has dementia, Angie Monfries, a carer for her mother (helped by Bristol Black Carers) who has dementia, Dr Paloma Sequeiros, an expert in dementia and creator of the Carer's Scheme currently running in South Gloucestershire and Trish Caverly, Community Development Co-ordinator for the Dementia Wellbeing Service.

Host Gwen Watson immediately made everyone feel at ease and, interspersed with great music, the guests talked about their experiences of caring for people and helping people with dementia in Bristol and South Gloucestershire.

Angie and Tony shared their experiences of caring for a loved one with dementia and the challenges they face. Dr Sequeiros talked about what dementia is and how to get a diagnosis and Trish Caverly talked about the films she has made in different languages to widen service access to more communities in Bristol.

At the end of the programme, Charlie informed the audience about the Join Dementia Research service and advised listeners to sign up to be able to take part in research, as it's the only way to beat dementia.

(A big 'thank you' to everyone involved for giving up their time to support us - we really appreciate it!)

For anyone who was affected by the programme or would like to speak with professionals about dementia - services available, taking part in research or even just more about the disease - Join Dementia Research is holding a coffee and cake morning in Easton Community Centre on 25 February, from 12-2pm. Come along and say hello!
