Join Dementia Research is taking over Bristol’s Ujima Radio!

Local people across Bristol can find out how to get involved in essential dementia research and about the services available to people with dementia across the city by tuning in to Bristol’s Ujima Radio Morning Show on 29 January at 2pm.

The show will be hosted by Join Dementia Research, a national service that enables people to register their interest in and be matched with suitable research studies, and will feature people who care for people with dementia as well as doctors and researchers.

Dementia can affect anyone. More than 850,000 people in the UK are now living with the condition - and that figure is expected to rise to 1,000,000 people by 2021.

The only way to develop a cure and find ways of preventing dementia from occurring is through research. Taking part in dementia research helps scientists and healthcare professionals to understand more about the disease, which will improve care and create more effective treatments - helping people to live well with dementia.

To give the research a greater chance of success we need as many volunteers as possible to sign up to the Join Dementia Research service, both people living with and without dementia or memory problems, and it’s important that everyone in the community is represented.

Anyone over the age of 18 can register and it’s as easy as making a phone call or signing up online.

Join Dementia Research has been developed by the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), Alzheimer Scotland, Alzheimer’s Research UK and Alzheimer’s Society to make taking part in dementia research as easy as possible.

Charlie Procter, Join Dementia Research Project Officer, said: “The West of England currently has the highest number of people in the country signed up to Join Dementia Research but we always need more people living with dementia to join. We’re particularly interested in having greater representation from people in the Black Minority Ethnic community. Our goal is to find the way to beat dementia and everybody can help.”
